2007 Successes

The Cherry Creek Bike Rack

  • Continued operation and promotion of Colorado's first indoor bike parking facility
  • Hosted second annual Commuter Challenge event and increased participation by more than 100% to 183 cyclists.  Participating riders made more than 1500 trips over nearly 15,000 miles, preventing the creation of nearly 13,000 pounds of air pollution.

Bike to Work Day

  • Welcomed 300 commuting cyclists to one of the area's largest and most successful breakfast stations - the Bike Rack's Breakfast Station Block Party

University of Denver

  • Expanded bicycle registration program to include mandatory registration by all on-campus freshmen
  • Saved more than 406,000 vehicle miles traveled (VMT) through promotion of employee commuter programs
  • Saved approximately 180,000 VMT per week through student commuter programs
  • Managed transit pass programs for 2300 staff and 9450 students

Colorado Center

  • Hosted Commuter Therapy event for all tenant employees
  • Hosted commuter information session for all tenant CE0s and Benefits Managers

Cherry Creek North

  • Developed and implemented the Go Transit program to encourage Cherry Creek employees to use transit
  • Hosted Commuter Therapy event to promote alternative transportation use among Clayton Lane employees

The Road Ahead

  • Hosted the third annual event, featuring the economics of transportation
  • Attracted nearly 120 attendees, including five metro area mayors, three members for the Denver City Council, six RTD Directors, a State Transportation Commissioner and members of the US Senate staff

Designed to Ride

  • Enhanced 50 bus stops in the Cherry Creek area--added colorful art, schedules and route information at all stops
  • Hosted three outreach events to help new transit riders navigate the RTD system
  • Initial evaluation shows an immediate 7% increase in transit ridership at Cherry Creek stops and a significant shift in perception of stops as safe; of transit as a viable transportation option; and of knowledge about routes serving the Cherry Creek area

Partnerships

  • Collected nearly 100 bicycles for children in need through the Share a Cycle program with Campus Cycles
  • Completed the first full year of facilitation of the Transportation Solutions Community Council, a coalition of representatives from the neighborhoods in our service area; increased membership to 19 active neighborhood groups
  • Partnered with the Stapleton Area TMA to secure a Safe Routes to School grant to evaluate and improve walking & biking routes to six area elementary schools

In the Community

  • Promoted alternative transportation options at numerous community fairs
  • Kicked off a grant to work with office towers to reduce gridlock along the Colorado Boulevard corridor
  • Hosted a bike parking corral at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival to encourage cycling to this nationally renowned event
  • Worked with the City of Glendale to promote transit use in conjunction with the opening of Infinity Park
  • Supported Mile High Development in securing rezoning approval for transit-oriented development (TOD) site near the University of Denver Light Rail Station
  • Supported Lincoln Property Company in securing rezoning approval for expansion of the TOD site near the Colorado Light Rail Station
  • Executive Director served as Co-Chair of the Denver Parking Commission
  • Staff served on the Sustainable Transportation Working Group for the 2008 Democratic National Convention

Kudos

  • Received the International 2007 Outstanding TMA Award from the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT)
  • Received a 2007 Mayor's Design Award from Denver Mayor Hickenlooper for the Designed to Ride project
